the speaker
Nadia Seraiocco, PhD in Communication, jointly holds degrees from Concordia University, the University of Montreal, and UQAM. After a career in communications from 1999 to 2014, working as a journalist and for organizations such as the National Gallery of Canada, VIA Rail, and the City of Montreal, her curiosity about technology led her to develop expertise in digital communications. Since 2013, she has taught digital media at UQAM's School of Media. Her research interests include creative research and the philosophical and ethical questions surrounding the use of individuals' personal data. For her doctoral thesis, defended in 2023 and entitled 'The Digital Double and Identity: Between Reflection, Amplification, and Diffraction,' she created a chatbot using her personal data that interacted on Twitter. Her master's thesis focused on Fluxus films, and she also pursued graduate studies at HEC Montréal. A blogger since 2002, she has been a columnist at ICI Première and regularly appears in the media.

Punk strategies to find your voice!
Punk culture, in its political function, stands against the fundamentals of capitalism: anti-consumerism, nonconformity, anti-racism, anti-sexism, and anti-discrimination of all kinds. Appropriation, hacktivism, and culture jamming are among the consistently effective strategies associated with subcultures. We will explore, through examples and case studies, how to remain passionate and relevant by using punk tactics to develop one's voice and maintain a critical perspective.
